The Bel Porto Foundation
The Bel Porto Foundation was established in 1994 as the fundraising and marketing division of the Bel Porto School Governing Body. The Foundation’s sole mandate is fundraising and marketing in the best interest of Bel Porto School. The foundation is managed by a Management Committee. The Foundation’s Chairperson, as member of the Bel Porto School Governing Body, gives regular feedback to the Governing Body.

Section 21 school:
Bel Porto School is a section 21 Special School defined by the South African School Act. Raising funds to meet its needs is mandated, as the WCED subsidy cannot meet them.
WCED Affiliation:
The school resides under the auspices of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED).
Public Benefit Organisation:
The school is a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) registered with the South African Revenue Services (SARS) with registration number PBO#930000372.
Article 18A Tax Certificates:
This registration as a PBO entitles the school to issue Article 18A Tax Certificates for donations received that meet the provisions and requirements of the Income Tax Act.
Fundraising Model:
Own initiatives - arranging fundraising events, e.g. a Golf Day, morning markets and selling of produce.
WCED Funding - We receive a subsidy that partially covers our expenses, but as a Section 21 School, we must raise funds for the rest of our needs.
Parent Contributions - Parents are encouraged to pay school and bus fees. Currently, 40% are paying full or partial payments, and the remaining 60% are exempt due to their financial circumstances.
Donor funding - we approach prospective donors for specific needs.
Social media funding - we intend to utilise appropriate funding platforms to address specific needs.
Benefits to Donors
18A Tax Certificate and BEE Score Card Recognition - Bel Porto School is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) #930000372. Donations received are eligible for 18A tax receipts, and with our demographics, we meet the criteria for BEE scorecard recognition.
Supporting our PBAs - The school’s Public Benefit Activities (PBAs) are educational, therapeutic and medical interventions for children with severe/moderate intellectual and co-occurring impairments.
Invest in a child's development - By supporting any of our fundraising projects, we allow our donors to achieve something special by investing in our children's development. These interventions put them on a path of self-actualisation throughout their school careers. Furthermore, they leave school with life skills that allow them to participate meaningfully in the community, the world of work, family, and social life.
